The World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List isn't a short list. It runs across nine categories — from anabolic agents and stimulants to hormone modulators and masking agents — and it doesn't stand still. WADA reviews and updates it every year, and separately tracks emerging substances not yet listed, so the scope of what "banned" actually covers keeps shifting.

That raises a question worth asking of any product you trust, tested by anyone: how many of those nine categories does your current testing actually check? How many individual substances within them? Most brands can't answer that with certainty, because most certification doesn't say.

What is the WADA Prohibited List?

The World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List is the standard that defines what's banned in sport, both in and out of competition. It's a mandatory international standard, not a voluntary guideline — every certified anti-doping body works from the same document.

The nine categories

The List runs across nine substance categories: Anabolic agents, Peptide hormones and growth factors, Beta-2 agonists, Hormone and metabolic modulators, Diuretics and masking agents, Stimulants, Narcotics, Cannabinoids, and Glucocorticoids. Some apply at all times, others specifically in-competition.

It's not a fixed list — and that's deliberate

WADA reviews and republishes the List every year. Beyond the named substances, it includes a standing clause covering anything with a similar chemical structure or biological effect — and a separate Monitoring Programme tracking emerging substances not yet listed at all. The scope is built to keep closing gaps, not to sit still.

How PURELITE tests against it

UK Anti-Doping

UK Anti-Doping is the UK's National Anti-Doping Organisation, responsible for implementing the World Anti-Doping Code within the UK and testing British athletes against it. UKAD does not accredit or endorse commercial supplement certification programmes — its remit is testing, education, and enforcement within UK sport, not certifying products or the companies that test them.

UKAD conducted over 8,400 tests across UK sport in 2025 — around three-quarters of them out-of-competition, testing athletes during training rather than only on competition day.
